"A horse is the projection of peoples' dreams about themselves — strong, powerful, beautiful — and it has the capability of giving us escape from our mundane existence." ~ Pam Brown
There are four herds of wild horses in Missouri, all federally protected and managed. While some of the herds have become quite familiar with people, others maintain their distance. I spent two hours in the field with these horses, often photographing them at a distance greater than 50 yards. At one point, though, three of the horses from the herd came over toward me because there were hunting dogs running through the field, one passing quite close behind me. I believe this young stallion took exception to the dog's approach and tried to run it away from me.
I am thankful for the blessing of this experience; the escape provided was welcome!
